Why Vermiculite for Pool Bases?

When incorporated into an appropriate cementitious mix, expanded vermiculite produces a lightweight and workable material that can be shaped and finished to form a smooth base beneath a vinyl pool liner.

The resulting base is comparatively soft and forgiving beneath the liner, while its porous structure can allow moisture beneath the liner to move through the pool base rather than becoming trapped against a dense surface.

In Canadian climates, swimming pools are exposed to significant seasonal temperature changes, freeze-thaw cycles and associated ground movement.

A vermiculite-cement pool base provides a lightweight and comparatively forgiving surface beneath a vinyl liner. The characteristics of a vermiculite-cement pool base can help accommodate minor ground movement beneath the pool liner, while providing a smooth base and helping reduce the risk of stones or other underlying material migrating upward and damaging the liner.
